The High Court's judgement regarding Ayodhya ji

The Court's verdict in the Ayodhya is an opportunity for the Muslims and Professional Hindu Haters (Leftists / Liberals / Secular / Congress etc.) to create an environment of respect and reconciliation towards the Hindu community.

That there was a temple that Babar destroyed is proven beyond doubt. So why not say that entire India will join hands in creating a भव्य temple of Lord Ram.

Why this insistence on having a Mosque next door announcing 5 times that there is no God except Allah. And butchering animals on Eid.

In Saudi Arabia, if a non Muslim enters Mecca / Medina, he will get beheaded.

So, why should our holy land be desecrated ?

Mosque at Shree Ram Janma Bhoomi

There was a posting on a Social Media Site.

There is no need for temples or churches or mosques, no need for complicated philosophy. God is everywhere! Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness and love. So whatever be the Ayodhya verdict just Chill my friends

I liked the response:
Removing a symbol of slavery should be welcomed by all. Why is vote bank politics being played on this.

Why should anyone who believes in our Nation, oppose the proposal of shifting the "mosque" commemorating a fanatic, blood thirsty marauder called Babar to outside Ayodhya ji - an area that is sacred to millions of people.

For the English speaking elite, "Ram" is a mythological character. For the millions who did not study in convents, "Lord Ram" is a matter of belief and veneration - not logic.

It is well known that more than 30, 000 temples were destroyed and mosques built in their place - to humiliate and rub the salt in the wounds of the defeated Hindus.

We have asked for just 3 temples - in Ayodhya ji - Lord Ram's temple, in Mathura ji - Lord Krishna's birthplace and Lord Shiv in Kashi ji (Varanasi).

If you have ever visited any of these you will realize that the temples were destroyed precisely to enslave our minds, to demonstrate the victory of Islam over Hindus.

After 1947, Muslims who chose to stay in India - instead of going to Pakistan, did with an understanding of respecting Hindu opinion. They should be progressive in correcting the wrongs committed by their forefathers and creating a strong relationship of respect and reconciliation with the majority community.

It is in line with what the German govt. did for Jews and similar to the Catholic Church's apology for the Inquisitions and ethnic cleansing of the Incas, Aztecs, and other indigenous people.

Only people who believe that these "mosques" - essentially symbols of slavery should be allowed to stay - are those who do not believe in a life of respect and dignity for the Hindus in their own country.

Christian Persecution in India: The Real Story

Christian Persecution in India: The Real Story

We have heard about what the Christians in India have called the persecutions against them. However, there is much more to this story than we often hear, and there are certainly two sides to it.

The following is a first-hand investigative article that relates what has really been going on with the Christians in India, much of which has been kept from the public. This shows the duplicity in the Christian activities in India.

This article, by Francois Gautier, is reprinted from the "Annual Research Journal, 2001" published by the Institute for Rewriting Indian [and World] History.

WILL HINDUISM SURVIVE THE PRESENT CHRISTIAN OFFENSIVE?
By Francois Gautier

When Prime Minister Vajpayee was in the US in September (2000) , the National Association of Asian Christians in the US (whom nobody had heard about before), paid $ 50,000 to the New York Times to publish "an Open Letter to the Honorable Atal Bihari Vajpayee, prime minister of India."

While "warmly welcoming the PM," The NAAC expressed deep concern about the "persecution" of Christians in India by "extremist" (meaning Hindu) groups mentioning as examples "the priest, missionaries and church workers who have been murdered," the nuns "raped," and the potential enacting of conversion laws, which would make "genuine" conversions illegal. The letter concluded by saying "that Christians in India today live in fear."

The whole affair was an embarrassment (as it was intended to be) to Mr. Vajpayee and the Indian delegation, which had come to prod American businessmen to invest in India, a peaceful, pro-Western and democratic country.

I am born a Christian and I have had a strong Catholic education. I do believe that Christ was an incarnation of Pure Love and that His Presence still radiates in the world. I also believe there are human beings who sincerely try to incarnate the ideals of Jesus and that you can find today in India a few missionaries (such as Father Ceyrac, a French Jesuit, who works mostly with lepers in Tamil Nadu) who are incarnations of that Love, tending tirelessly to people, without trying to convert them.

But I have also lived for more than 30 years in India, I am married to an Indian, I have travelled the length and breadth of this country and I have evolved a love and an understanding of India, which few other foreign correspondents have because they are never posted long enough to start getting a real feeling of this vast and often baffling country (nobody can claim to fully understand India). And this is what I have to say about the "persecution" of Christians in India.

Firstly, it is necessary to bring about a little bit of a historical flashback, which very few foreign correspondents (and unfortunately also Indian journalists) care to do, which would make for a more balanced view of the problem.

If ever there was persecution, it was of the Hindus at the hands of Christians, who were actually welcomed in this country, as they have been welcomed in no other place on this planet.

Indeed, the first Christian community of the world, that of the Syrian Christians, was established in Kerala in the first century. They were able to live in peace and practice their religion freely, even imbibing some of the local Hindu customs, thereby breaking the Syrian Church in two.

When Vasco de Gama landed in Kerala in 1498, he was generously received by the Zamorin, the Hindu king of Calicut, who granted him the right to establish warehouses for commerce.

But once again, Hindu tolerance was exploited and the Portuguese wanted more and more.

In 1510, Alfonso de Albuquerque seized Goa, where he started a reign of terror, burning "heretics," crucifying Brahmins, using false theories to forcibly convert the lower castes, razing temples to build churches upon them and encouraging his soldiers to take Indian mistresses.

Indeed, the Portuguese perpetrated here some of the worst atrocities ever committed in Asia by Christianity upon another religion. Ultimately, the Portuguese had to be kicked out of India, when all other colonisers had already left.

British missionaries in India were always supporters of colonialism. They encouraged it and their whole structure was based on "the good Western civilized world being brought to the Pagans."

Because, in the words of Claudius Buchanan, a chaplain attached to the East India Company, "Neither truth, nor honesty, honour, gratitude, nor charity, is to be found in the breast of a Hindoo!"

What a comment about a nation that gave the world the Vedas at a time when Europeans were still grappling in their caves!

And it is in this way that the British allowed entire chunks of territories in the East, where lived tribals, whose poverty and simplicity made them easy prey to be converted to Christianity. By doing so, the Christian missionaries cut a people from their roots and tradition, made them look westwards towards a culture and a way of life which was not theirs.

And the result is there today for everyone to see: it is in these eastern states, some of which are 90 per cent Christian, that one finds the biggest drug problems (and crime) in India. It should also be said that many of the eastern separatist movements have been covertly encouraged by Christian missionaries on the ground that "tribals were there before the 'Aryan Hindus' invaded India and imposed Hinduism upon them."

The trouble is that the latest archaeological and linguistic discoveries point to the fact that there NEVER was an Aryan invasion of India --it just was an invention of the British and the missionaries to serve their purpose. Aryanism is a synonym of Vedic culture.

Secondly, Christianity has always striven on the myth of persecution, which in turn bred "martyrs" and saints, indispensable to the propagation of Christianity. But it is little known, for instance, that the first "saints" of Christianity, "martyred" in Rome, a highly refined civilization which had evolved a remarkable system of gods and goddesses, derived from Hindu mythology via the Greeks, were actually killed (a normal practice in those days) while bullying peaceful Romans to embrace the "true" religion, in the same way that later Christian missionaries will browbeat "heathen" Hindus, adoring many gods into believing that Jesus was the only "true" god.

Now to come to the recent cases of persecution of Christians in India at the hands of Hindu groups.

I have personally investigated quite a few, amongst them the rape of the four nuns in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, nearly two years ago. This rape is still quoted as an example of the "atrocities" committed by Hindus on Christians.

Yet, when I interviewed the four innocent nuns, they themselves admitted, along with George Anatil, the bishop of Indore, that it had nothing to do with religion: It was the doing of a gang of Bhil tribals, known to perpetrate this kind of hateful acts on their own women.

Today, the Indian press, the Christian hierarchy and the politicians, continue to include the Jhabua rape in the list of atrocities against Christians.

Or take the burning of churches in Andhra Pradesh a few months ago, which was supposed to have been committed by the "fanatic" RSS. It was proved later that it was actually the handiwork of Indian Muslims, at the behest of the ISI to foment hatred between Christians and Hindus.
Yet the Indian press, which went berserk at the time of the burnings, mostly kept quiet when the true nature of the perpetrators was revealed.

Finally, even if Dara Singh does belong to the Bajrang Dal, it is doubtful if the hundred other accused do. What is more probable, is that like in many other "backward" places, it is a case of converted tribals versus non-converted tribals, of pent-up jealousies, of old village-feuds and land disputes.

It is also an outcome of what -- it should be said -- are the aggressive methods of the Pentecost and Seventh Day Adventist missionaries, known for their muscular ways of conversion.

Thirdly, conversions in India by Christian missionaries of low caste Hindus and tribals are sometimes nothing short of fraudulent and shameful acts. American missionaries are investing huge amounts of money in India, which come from donation-drives in the United States where gullible Americans think the dollars they are giving go towards uplifting "poor and uneducated" Indians.

It is common in Kerala, for instance, particularly in the poor coastal districts, to have "miracle boxes" put in local churches. The gullible villager writes out a paper mentioning his wish such as a fishing boat, a loan for a pucca (ie brick) house, fees for the son's schooling. And lo, a few weeks later the miracle happens! And of course the whole family converts, making others in the village follow suit.

American missionaries (and their government) would like us to believe that democracy includes the freedom to convert by any means. But France for example, a traditionally Christian country, has a minister who is in charge of hunting down "sects." And by sects, it is meant anything that does not fall within the recognized family of Christianity -- even the Church of Scientology, favoured by some Hollywood stars such as Tom Cruise or John Travolta, is ruthlessly hounded.

And look at what the Americans did to the Osho movement in Arizona, or how innocent children and women were burnt down by the FBI (with the assistance of the US army) at Waco, Texas, because they belonged to a dangerous sect.

Did you know that Christianity is dying in the West? Not only is church attendance falling dramatically because spirituality has deserted it, but less and less youth accept the vocation to become priests or nuns. And as a result, say in the rural parts of France, you will find only one priest for six or seven villages, whereas till the late seventies, the smallest hamlet had its own parish priest.

And where is Christianity finding new priests today? In the Third World, of course! And India, because of the innate impulsion of its people towards god, is a very fertile recruiting ground for the Church, particularly in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Hence the huge attention that India is getting from the United States, Australia, or England and the massive conversion drive going on today.

It is sad that Indians, once converted, specially the priests and nuns, tend to turn against their own country and help in the conversion drive. There are very few "White" missionaries left in India and most of the conversions are done today by Indian priests. Last month, during the bishop's conference in Bangalore, it was restated by bishops and priests from all over India that
conversion is the FIRST priority of the Church here.

But are the priests and bishops aware that they would never find in any Western country the same freedom to convert that they take for granted in India? Do they know that in China they would be expelled, if not put into jail? Do they realize that they have been honoured guests in this country for nearly two thousand years and that they are betraying those that gave them peace and freedom?

Hinduism, the religion of tolerance, and spirituality of this new millennium, has survived the unspeakable barbarism of wave after wave of Muslim invasions, the insidious onslaught of Western colonialism which has killed the spirit of so many Third World countries, and the soul-stifling assault of Nehruvianism.

But will it survive the present Christian offensive? Many Hindu religious leaders feel Christianity is a real threat today, as in numerous ways it is similar to Hinduism, from which Christ borrowed so many concepts. (See Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's book: "Hinduism and Christianity")

It is thus necessary that Indians themselves become more aware of the danger their culture and unique civilization is facing at the hands of missionaries sponsored by foreign money. It is also necessary that they stop listening to the Marxist-influenced English newspapers' defense of the right of Christian missionaries to convert innocent Hindus.

Conversion belongs to the times of colonialism. We have entered the era of Unity, of coming together, of tolerance and accepting each other as we are, not of converting in the name of one elusive "true" god. When Christianity accepts the right of other people to follow their own beliefs and creeds, then only will Jesus Christ's spirit truly radiate in the world.

Being Brave -

Taiwanese Tourists Shot in New Delhi

"Misguided" followers of the "Religion of Peace" shoot two foreign tourists at Jama Masjid. A pressure cooker bomb explodes.

P Chidambaram knows without investigations that this is not terrorist attack. Perhaps, just a little game between young "Jehadis".

But Muslims must have first right over national resources, including "Justice" -
...as decreed by Dr. MM Singh.

So, Chiddu will never utter "Islamic Terrorism" but rant and rave about "Saffron Terrorism".

Taiwanese Tourists Shot in New Delhi

NEW DELHI — Two armed assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on a tourist bus parked outside of New Delhi’s most famous mosque on Sunday, in an attack that comes as the city prepares to host the Commonwealth Games in two weeks.
Two Taiwanese tourists were wounded in the shooting, which occurred outside the Jama Masjid mosque at 11:30 a.m., the police said. The two attackers indiscriminately fired seven or eight rounds into the bus before escaping on their motorcycle as a nearby police officer tried to chase. A citywide manhunt was under way for the two attackers.
“It is difficult to say what the motive is,” Karnail Singh, the New Delhi joint police commissioner, told reporters.
The target as well as the timing immediately raised questions about whether the shooting was a deliberate terrorist attack. Security is a paramount concern for the Games, which open Oct. 3 and are expected to bring thousands of athletes and spectators to New Delhi for the sports competition among nations of the former British empire.
Various media organizations published a letter in Hindi purporting to be from the Indian Mujahedeen and claiming responsibility for the attack. The Indian government considers the group to be a terrorist organization. It is unclear which news organizations received the original communication, which also threatened the Games, and by late evening there were questions and skepticism about what connection the letter might have to the actual attack.
On Sunday, Sheila Dikshit, the chief minister of New Delhi, sought to calm fears about the attack, urging the public not to panic and repeating that the police had initiated a major investigation into the shooting. “It is not correct to write or assume that this is a terror attack,” Ms. Dikshit said on NDTV, a 24-hour news channel in New Delhi.
Commonwealth Games organizers said in a statement on Sunday that the shooting would have “no impact” on the Games. Officials “have made elaborate arrangements to provide the Commonwealth Games athletes and officials a safe and secure environment,” it said.
The two injured Taiwanese tourists were undergoing surgery in a New Delhi hospital on Sunday. Dr. Amit Banerjee, of Lok Narayan Jay Prakash Hospital, said that the tourists had suffered abdominal injuries.
The Jama Masjid is one of India’s largest mosques and is located in the old part of the city, across from the historic Red Fort. Built in the 17th century, the mosque attracts thousands of Muslims for Friday Prayer. In 2006, it was attacked by two low-intensity blasts that injured more than a dozen people. The mosque itself was not damaged.

Congress sells its way to Rs 600 cr corpus

Congress sells its way to Rs 600 cr corpus

The Indian National Congress has taken the next step in politics by moving away from the old era of donations to fund its activities to one of selling coupons to build up a corpus – the largest one among parties in India.

Congress sold coupons worth Rs 600 crore to generate funds during 2007-09 while most of the other political parties were dependent on voluntary donations for fund raising.

The oldest political party, Congress, generated Rs 598.4 crore during 2007-08 and 2008-09 through the sale of coupons while it received donations of Rs 72 crore. The party also generated Rs 38 crore as interest during the period, reveal income tax returns filed by the party.

Funds for Bharatiya Janta Party were mainly sourced from voluntary donations during the period which amounted to Rs 297.7 crore while interest of Rs 21.29 crore and "Ajiwan Sahyog Nidhi" were the other sources.
Public does not support Congress funding by donations. But Gandhi-Maino family converts a small part of its thousands of crores of black money by "selling coupons" and showing as receipts. It would be very interesting indeed, if the Income Tax people were to ask for a list of "purchasers of coupons".

Shantiniketan in a Barricade

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high".
Thus spake Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore.

So, in a fitting homage, "Yuvaraj" Raul Vinci, the 40 year old Youth leader, goes to Shanti Niketan - the abode of learning, and politicizes the academic environment.

And students get to shake hands via a wire fence - like on Indo-Pak border - apparently the most effective protection against sniper and bomb attacks.

Unless off course the intention is to remind about the lowly status of "mere students" vs. Yuvaraj.

Running with the Hare, Hunting with the Hounds !!!

Running with the Hare, Hunting with the Hounds !!!

Typical Two faced duplicity by Congress top brass.

30, 000 crore loot in name of CWG, while 2 lakh farmers commit suicide.

And displaying love for Common Aadmi by supporting the strike by THEIR trade union AGAINST THEIR government.

Sonia Rajmata, Tussi Great Ho

Jai Ho !!!!

Please read the story here
Sonia supports INTUC on Sep 7 general strike

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has backed the party-affiliated Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) in joining the other trade unions' call for a nation-wide shutdown Sep 7 against the 'anti-worker' policies of the central and state governments, a party leader said Sunday.

'When the senior party leaders appraised her at an informal meeting recently about INTUC's decision to join the general strike, Gandhi told them that 'INTUC is meant for that' and directed senior party leader Oscar Fernandes to co-ordinate with the union government, party and INTUC to settle the workers' demands,' the leader, who did not want to be identified, told IANS.

The leader said Gandhi said she will herself take up the workers' issues with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
'I will talk to the prime minister (about the workers's demands). INTUC must take up workers' issues,' Gandhi told the meeting.

Sources in the INTUC told IANS said both Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Fernandes spoke to INTUC president G. Sanjeeva Reddy about the workers' demands after Gandhi's directives.

Protesting against price rise, violation of labour laws and disinvestment of public sector units (PSUs), eight major trade unions, including INTUC and the trade unions affiliated to the Left parties, have called for a country-wide general strike Sep 7.

The trade unions are also demanding rehabilitation of the workers and employees who lost their jobs due to the economic recession and for Rs.50,000 crore for an unorganised workers' social security fund. The government has only allocated Rs.1,000 crore for 40 crore unorganised workers in the country.

The other trade unions which have called the strike include Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-affiliated Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and the Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS). The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, which is close to the Bharatiya Janata Party has not yet revealed its position.

INTUC national secretary R. Chandrasekharan told IANS that it was the first time in the history of independent India that INTUC had joined the trade unions affiliated to other political parties to call for an all India strike.

Dismissing the allegations by certain sections in the Congress party that it was a strike against the policies of the Manmohan Singh government, Chandrasekharan stressed the strike has been called for against anti-worker policies of both the centre and state governments.
So, the INTUC top brass acknowledge that the Central Govt.'s policies are Anti Worker.
And Sonia Aunty does her typical symbolism - participate in the strike.

One Country - Two Sets of Rules - 1

One Country Two Set of Rules
India sends $ 25 million Aid to Pakistan - through UN as demanded by Pakis - which will be utilized to kill even more Kaafirs (non Muslims) in India.

Just a few km away from the Rashtrapati Bhawan, 3 camps of Kashmiri Pandits continue to run in tents for FOURTEEN years. As of date there are 100, 000 Kashmiri Pandits living as refugees in their own country. Sri Sri raises this point in this video.

But, as our respected Dr. MM Singh explains in the perfect definition of Congressi secularism,

"Muslims must have the first claim on nation's resources"

Surely, in India, the biggest crime is of being a Hindu.
So, the Congress govt. buys toilet rolls for Rs. 4200 per roll while spending 30, 000 crores on CWG. Kashmiri Pandits are mad dogs meant to be killed. They deserve no budget.

Jai Ho !!!!

Of ‘Azaadi’, ‘Kashmiri’ and other false words

Of ‘Azaadi’, ‘Kashmiri’ and other false words
The real issue in Jammu & Kashmir

ARNAB RAY

Arnab Ray is the author of “May I Hebb Your Attention Pliss.” (HarperCollins) and blogs at greatbong.net

There has been a slew of pro-Azaadi, anti-India articles in the Indian mainstream press recently. One fine specimen of mediahood proudly recounted how he became a stone-thrower for a day, pointing out quite pointedly that the only thing that saved him was the Hindustan Times staff card, with the emphasis being on the sub-string Hindu. Of all these marvelous bits of journalism, with their objectivity and integrity misaals in their own right, my favorite piece is by one M F Husain, who tells us how he left India for its lack of freedom. Yes, and presumably found it in Qatar, an Islamic theocracy where freedom of all religions other than Islam is severely restricted and where apostasy (leaving Islam) is technically punishable by death.

To castigate India for being “not free” while being a voluntary citizen of Qatar is the height of hypocrisy.

Anyhow, this article is not about M F Husain. Nor is it about the way forward in Kashmir nor whether trying to bribe the local population with money will work. Nor about the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) which I believe needs to be repealed, for the armed forces have to be made accountable in civilian contexts like everyone else. Nor indeed about the recent violence per se.

It is about the Kashmiri ‘fighting for independence against the wicked Indian state.’ thing that we see repeated
ad nauseum not just from Pakistan but also in the Indian mainstream media.

My first beef is with the word ‘independence’.

Historically independence struggles have been fought against foreign powers, those who have taken control over a piece of territory for the purpose of economic exploitation. It has also been fought between peoples of the same nation, like the Bangladesh independence struggle where a section of the population that has attained power (Punjabi Muslims) treats another ethnic or linguistic community (in this case Bangali Muslims) as second class citizens, systematically annihilating and depriving them of their most basic rights.

In the case of India’s Jammu & Kashmir state, none of this is true. India does not economically exploit Kashmir. On the contrary it spends a massive amount on the state trying to buy the loyalty of the population.

Even the New York Times, which last time I looked wasn’t a right wing newspaper, says: “The dirty little secret of Srinagar, the heart of the movement to secede from India, is that many of its residents live quite well on the Indian government’s money”.

At the very least, no one can accuse the Indian government of taking anything out of the state. It is, of course, true that a lot of the development money lands up in wrong hands (that happens everywhere in India) but there are far more deprived areas of India that have no ‘freedom struggles.’ As to the rights of Kashmiri people, they have privileges over property ownership that very few Indian citizens outside Kashmir have, making them super-citizens rather than inferior ones.

So none of the traditional characteristics of freedom struggles hold here. However, it is true that Kashmiris are fighting. But for independence. They are fighting to establish a theocratic Islamic shariyat state, aligned with or as an intrinsic part of Pakistan, where “independence” is defined somewhat as it is defined in Qatar, with subjugated status for minorities, and where the establishment of liberty, equality and fraternity—the ideals of any freedom struggle —is farthest from the minds of the stone-throwers and those that support them.

Sure, one can say, “So what? If they want to establish an Islamic state, that’s their decision. What right does the Indian government have to interfere.”

This brings us to my second bone of contention—the word “Kashmiri”.

Like “independence” this too, in this context, is a false word. A better more honest descriptor would be “Kashmiri Sunni Muslims”. There was a time when Kashmiris meant both Hindus and Muslims, but then the Kashmiri Hindus were killed and driven out of the state by ‘Kashmiris’.

Since these Hindus (as well as people in Jammu and Ladakh) are not part of the ‘freedom struggle’ it is not fair to use the word Kashmiri to refer to the agitators, who, since they use Islam as their reason for wanting independence and identify themselves solely by their religious orientation, should also not object to being called what they actually are — Kashmiri Sunni Muslims.

The question should now be framed as: “So what is wrong in letting Kashmiri Sunni Muslims, after they have driven out the large section of the minorities, from establishing an “Islam is the answer”, “independent”, non-democratic state ? Their free will — they shall do as they like”.

If tomorrow the majority in Jat-land start an armed struggle to establish an autonomous Khap-istan where castiest lynchings, dowry and child marriage are legal, and where intercaste marriage implies death and retributive rape, would you call that an “independence” struggle and say that India should just let them have their way and not have the army fight them?

If the day after tomorrow, if Gujarat decides that it wants to throw out its Muslim minorities and establish a Hindu theocratic Dhokla-land will the same Indians who post “Stop illegal military occupation of Kashmir by terrorist-state India” on Facebook also support the rights of Gujarati Hindus to choose how they wish to be governed because that’s what the ‘Gujarati’ majority wants?

I think I know the answer.

So please Sirs and Madams, do protest against the Indian state and the Indian Army and sign petitions and protest outside the United Nations while drinking Starbucks and discussing EB2 Green Card priority dates. Do whatever you want to do but please, for the sake of truth of labelling, please drop the “independence struggle” from the description, and qualify the word “Kashmiri” with what should come after it.

Of course, if you do so, then the romance and the liberal “feel good” of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with an independence movement will be gone. Hurling stones at the Indian Army would be seen not as an act of supreme passion and justified frustration but as an act of war against the Indian state, something I believe which there are laws against.

Which is why you won’t do it.

Increasing Exploitation of Water by Delhi's residents - Renuka ji's water in Delhi

Kurush Canteenwalla’s documentary made as part of the Infochange Media Fellowship 2009 starts in thirsty Delhi and travels to the lush, green Renuka valley in Himachal Pradesh. Some 550 families in 17 panchayats here are to be thrown off their fertile picture-postcard land to make way for the Renuka dam that will supply water to Delhi. Those living in the area –mostly farmers - point to the many crops they grow and from which they make a decent living, and expose the falsehoods of government officials who claim this is a barren and treeless area.

Journalist Ravleen Kaur points out that Delhi does not suffer from shortage of water but from unequal distribution, with sarkari Delhi getting more than 10 times the water of some other areas, and writer Anupam Mishra produces a 200-year-old map that shows how thoughtless and greedy city planning has caused Delhi’s ponds and rivers to disappear so that it now has to reach out 300 miles away to slake its thirst.

The government justifies the dam in the ‘national interest’ but the video leaves one wondering just how Delhi is in the national interest and the Renuka valley is not.
 This is shocking.

A friend asked - So what is the solution?

My response was - Like the CWG, it is an issue of having vision and managing its execution. With out thinking the quick fixes or the solution that will give most kickbacks.

Specifically, Better management of leakage and wastage.

We are currently having availability of 300 liters / day / resident in Delhi. Cities having just 100 liters / day / resident do a better job of supplying. Almost 30 % water gets lost in Delhi in leakage and wastage.

Secondly our traditional sources of water harvesting like wells and baoli need to be preserved. (Remember Khari Baoli - there used to be a baoli in OLD DELHI with hard water).

The concretization of entire city has meant greatly reduced capacity of land to recharge. That needs to be corrected. But is unlikely.

Look at CWG apartments sanctioned by the Courts - on the Yamuna ji's bed. And what grounds ?? - It is wrong, the Court said, but it is late, so lets' sanction, environment be damned. Meaning - we delayed it, but you pay for the environment impact.

Without naming names, it is common consensus amongst Supreme court lawyers - that a particular retired Chief Justice of India is worth 250 crores. No, he did not win the Lotto.

Corrupt judiciary, even more corrupt politicians and bureaucrats, and an emerging plutocracy - you are looking at ever factor that can lead to collapse of a nation / society.

Public opinion can do wonders - look at what Medha Patkar was able to accomplish for the dam displaced. But the apathetic civil society and biased media make that a game of chance.

So NET NET - the rampant corruption afflicting the arms of democracy and public apathy - both have a common cause. Decline in character of people.

For correcting that, the RSS Shakha is one route.

Other routes might include reviving the moral education and a highlighting those who walk the talk in living a life of integrity. Religious / civil society movements are the only solution I can see.

Bringing about Transparency helps reduce the loot and tilt the balance in this fight.

When a nation's character disappears, the nation collapses. The tragedy is that we have got into this situation in less than 70 years.
